In the mining company Ferrexpo with assets in Ukraine, they realize that the team is not just a strategic resource, but specific people with their own stories of achievements, which make up the Companyʼs success story. Therefore, despite all the challenges, they continue to actively invest in personnel. «We are currently observing many trends in the labor market of Ukraine that are correcting our HR strategy, the Company says. — But Ferrexpo has enough strength and energy to respond to these challenges and retain people by attracting them to our team». What gives the Company such confidence and allows it to work stably in difficult times?

There is a shortage of personnel in the so-called production or «male» specialties on the Ukrainian labor market.

«Today, almost 800 employees, representatives of professions critical to our enterprises, are fighting for the independence of our state on the battle front. There is also staff turnover. Moreover, the market shows that our salaries exceed the median in the industry, and in certain positions they are in the upper quartile. Therefore, we can say that pay it is not the main factor in turnover».

Ferrexpo is actively looking for new reserves. For example, they are developing a school for training and improving the qualifications of employees, the activities of which are aimed at creating multifunctional professions. They also attract women to «menʼs» specialties and develop womenʼs leadership projects. The Femunity School is being implemented at the enterprises, where over 200 female employees were able to develop their leadership qualities for professional growth in three years.

«We create comfortable industrial and living conditions for women at work, because ensuring the comfort of work is the duty of Ferrexpo, which positions itself as a place of happy people», the Company emphasizes.

Another factor of the stability of the team is constant care for employees, their families, physical and mental health. Since the beginning of the war, the Company has not suspended a single clause of the collective agreement dealing with the welfare and motivation of the staff. A number of additional projects aimed at personnel care were also introduced.

Thus, the welfare program helps to cope with psychological problems by receiving anonymous help at the Ferrexpo medical center. The Company provides health insurance for employees, takes care of internally displaced persons and has a comprehensive program for supporting veterans, which, in addition to physical and psychological rehabilitation, includes information support, sanatorium-resort rehabilitation and retraining for employees who cannot return to their jobs due to their health.

Special pride is the Ferrotale corporate theater, where employees reveal their talents, communicate and distract themselves from complex everyday life. Funds from the sale of tickets to performances are directed to the purchase of equipment for the soldiers of the Armed Forces. «Trust in management and team cohesion is the engine that enables the Company to work stably», emphasizes Yulia Klevova, HR Director of Ferrexpo in Ukraine. «Most of the employees have remained with us since the beginning of the war and continue to faithfully perform their duties with faith in victory».

My grandfather and father are electric and gas welders, so I understood from childhood that this profession is difficult and responsible. But at the mining school in Horishni Plavni, I chose the family profession and did not regret it: during my internship at Ferrexpo Poltava Mining, I was so impressed by the scale and power of production that I immediately understood where I wanted to work.

At first, male colleagues at the Plant met me with surprise — they asked if I could do something. Of course, over time, I proved that I love work and know how to weld metal structures just like them. But I am grateful to my colleagues for their help and tips.

For six months now, I have been working as a foremanʼs assistant and intern other women, teaching them the basics of welding.

Although you canʼt tell at first glance, my profession is creative: here you need to make each weld nicely so that it has a better look. I like it when my students quickly acquire the necessary skills, and most of all, that after the internship they get a job at the Companyʼs enterprise, because they understand that there are good working conditions, a decent salary, caring managers and mentors who really care about the development of their subordinates.

In our region, Ferrexpo is the largest employer that provides the best working conditions and a decent salary. So in order to get a job with the Company, I trained as an excavator operatorʼs assistant at a mining school and then graduated from college.

From the first days of the full-scale aggression, I made an informed decision to defend Ukraine. I fought for more than a year and was demobilized after receiving injuries.

During my service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Company remembered me and made sure that I and my comrades had everything we needed. — I know that the Company is systematically approached by various military units, and since the beginning of the war, it has directed more than 955 million hryvnias, including aid to Ukrainian defenders.

After returning from the battle front, I immediately went to the enterprise, where I was kept a workplace. Unfortunately, I was unable to return to my previous job as an excavator operator in pit due to my health, but I was found a place in another subdivision. Now, after completing the training at the Ferrexpo Technical Expertise Center, I work as an electrician.

Ferrexpo veteran support program is very important, because it is step-by-step rehabilitation and gradual but effective reintegration into the work environment and society that allows veterans to feel their value and continue self-realization.

I came to Ferrexpo at the age of 19 in the IT Department as an intern. I always dreamed of being part of something bigger, implementing large-scale projects. So when we started cooperating with Ferrexpoʼs Corporate Communications Department as part of a project to create a web portal, I wanted to join this powerful team. As soon as a vacancy for a communications specialist appeared, I immediately applied and took the position. Due to the fact that I did not have much experience in corporate communications, I was offered a personal and professional development plan.

Ferrexpo paid for training in specialized programs, in particular at the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, and also financed a number of other training courses, in particular for learning English.

Within a year, I was promoted to the position of Senior Communications Specialist, and another year later to the position of Head of the Corporate Communications Department.

Working in the Company is comfortable: Ferrexpoʼs corporate culture promotes the development and growth of young professionals. Here, young people can be sure of the absence of discrimination due to differences of opinion, as well as the support and respect of management. In the company, one can always rely on the support of colleagues: everyone collaborates as a cohesive team, being very open and ready to prop up one another.

The management of the enterprises and the Groupʼs leadership listen like mentors and guides. Furthermore, the company is adapting to attract more young, talented professionals together to nurture the values of inclusivity, equality, and diversity.
